I Love Me A Good Theme

A week or so ago my hubby accused me of having the attention span of a hummingbird…I would sit down at the computer for a few minutes, then get up and wander around the house, sit down at my desk, wander, sit, wander, sit, and so on.  I always have so much I want/need to get done, so many ideas to get out of my head, that I usually find myself at a loss as to where to start.  I love when I have a great plan and everything comes together and I’m checking things off the to-do list like person who knows what the heck they are after.  But alas, most days I wander around the house, like a hummingbird with ADHD, trying to decide what to start on first and getting very little done in the process.

So my hubby’s hummingbird comment got me thinking, the little guys might zip around like mad but when they see something that grabs their attention, like a red flower, they become quite focused.  If you’ve ever watched the little suckers fighting over a feeder, you know what I mean.  So I figure what I need is to find my *read with booming voice over for maximum effect* “red flower of focus.”

And for me the thing that helps me focus more than anything is finding a great theme and running with it.  The only room in the house that is actually reasonably finished is the lil guys’ bedroom. You wanna know why? Yup, you guessed it.  Because it has a theme! Castles and dragons for Sir Q and pirates for the Capt C. You wanna know why I love planning parties? Yup, because you get to pick a theme! Decorating? Theme! Scrapbooking? Theme! You get the idea.

But I have yet to find a theme that helps me get excited about housework. The laundry and dishes are just, well, laundry and dishes and  no fancy “so your kids won’t be naked and your family won’t have to eat with their hands” theme is going to get me excited about doing them.  I guess I just have to learn to focus on things even if they don’t fit into my need for a fun theme.

Well, I really should go get something done, like folding the laun…oh look a red flower!
